Congratulations Class of 2009
As the Don Lugo Graduating Class of 2009 prepares to walk down the red carpet on Thursday at Citizens Bank Arena, we wish them the best that life can give. Don Lugo is a place of deep promise and, as we reflect upon this past year, our first year as the Don Lugo Renaissance Foundation, we are thankful that we could be part of the hope and dreams that are founded and fostered each day on this campus.
We have enjoyed many successes. Your funds helped to establish Don Lugo’s First Annual Community Art Gala, provide students with honor cards for the grades that they earned, and provided students who are on track to graduate a play day. Additionally, we celebrate as the Stadium is finally being built — purportedly to be finished by January 2010 — VERY exciting. However, these successes mean nothing in comparison to the larger successes of the year: our graduates.
Don Lugo High School is in the business of changing lives and impacting futures — you see that clearly every time a proud parent looks at their graduate shakes the hand of a teacher, walks down the red carpet, and begins the next part of their life’s journey. Stadium Groundbreaking
It is official! The stadium is being built. Tractors have already removed the track! On April 2nd the Board of Education voted to build a stadium on the Don Lugo campus. The “official” groundbreaking with all district personnel was held on Thursday, April 30th at 3:00 p.m. The ceremony took place out on the football field. The official shovel groundbreaking took place at this ceremony.
Lugo held a Don Lugo “family” groundbreaking on Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 p.m. This ceremony included alumni, staff, students, parents and anyone else who wanted to be apart of the groundbreaking. Anyone who purchased a golden shovel could turn over his or her own patch of dirt at this ceremony. Life Touch was on hand to take pictures of those who participated in the ceremony. The golden shovels cost $50 and included a DL sticker, your name on the shovel itself and the date of the groundbreaking on the handle of the shovel. Lugo is still responsible for funding the scoreboard and all the new track equipment along with equipment for the concession stand and field house. About $100,000 should do it I am told.
